EPD – who is excluded
The Explosion Protection Document (EPD) is the basic safety document which is crucial for all operations where substances capable of forming an explosive mixture with air are present.
When the EPD is not required
The Explosion Protection Document is not required if the quantity of the flammable substances is so low that it cannot form explosive atmosphere with hazardous volume. The “hazardous volume” always has to be assessed individually. A pint of petrol spilled outside does not pose explosion hazard (the risk of fire, however, remains!), the same volume spilled in a small office can form explosive atmosphere with hazardous volume in case of insufficient ventilation. If you do not know what to do, call us. We will be happy to help.
GR 406/2004 Coll., does not apply and the Explosion Protection Document does not have to be (but can be) drawn-up by employers whose employees work at the following types of workplaces (irrespective of volumes of substances):
- premises for examination and treatment of patients
- equipment for gaseous fuels combustion (gas boilers, furnaces, gas flow-heaters, air heaters, etc.) provided that they were commissioned in line with the legislation applicable to gas appliances and they have valid inspection certificate. Please note! EPD must be drawn-up for other parts of the gas distribution system, i.e., for example for pressure regulating stations and runs, main gas shut-off valves, etc.
- premises storing explosives and chemically unstable substances
- mining activities and activities performed using mining methods which are subject to supervision by the State Mining Administration
- means of transport (road, railway, water, aviation) - transport of hazardous materials is subject to special regulations (ADR, for example)
